LuxContinent announced the Anti-Spam Protection Campaign and would like to present a series of popular articles about spam protection and junk emails in general. The opening article is devoted to spam-prevention methods.

03 October, 2005 - Spam Reader 2.0 Release
Spam Reader contains almost all known effective methods for protection against unsolicited e-mails. A Bayesian filtering algorithm uses an automatically updated spam base to detect junk e-mails. A small percent of false positives is achieved using White List technology: any message received from a White List sender will always be recognized as non-spam. The list is automatically created and updated by adding the recipients of all outgoing messages. Also, Spam Reader uses some formal criteria for spam recognition, such as incorrect internet header fields in a message. Spam Reader 2.0 is designed to work with all types of mailboxes in Microsoft Outlook: POP3, IMAP, HTTP and Microsoft Exchange accounts.

14 July, 2005 - Maintenance Release of
Spam Reader 1.1
During massive virus mail attacks, users receive plenty of spam messages with attached virus files. Mail-scanning anti-virus software detects such messages, deletes viruses and sends report information to the user. From the user's point of view, these reports are also considered as spam. Now, Spam Reader can deal with virus reports from anti-virus programs like Symantec (Norton) Antivirus, McAfee VirusScan and PC-Cillin and recognizes their reports as junk emails.

09 April, 2005 - Maintenance Release of
Spam Reader 1.1
A special algorithm for interaction with Microsoft Outlook Rules has been added to Spam Reader. The algorithm allows a user to decide if Spam Reader execution has a higher priority than Outlook Rules, or not. This prevents chaotic movement of spam messages between Spam folder and a destination folder for some Outlook Rule in case the spam messages match up with this Rule.
